The Ultimate Guide to a Hauntingly Good Movie Marathon.

By Liam Morris-Thompson

As Halloween grows closer and closer, the necessity for a cozy horror-movie marathon grows larger and larger! Classic horror movies from the 80s and early 90s are a staple in pop culture and are pivotal in making the most of your Halloween. Yet, it’s easy to get overwhelmed when deciding which movies to watch and in what order. Luckily for you, we’ve created a one-stop shop for the classic horror lover who just wants to curl up into a ball on the couch and rot away while enjoying some of the best horror movies there are!

The Lost Boys (1987)

A cult classic, The Lost Boys seamlessly blends horror, comedy, and teen rebellion. Set in sunny Santa Clara, California, the film follows brothers Michael and Sam as they confront a seductive vampire gang led by the charismatic David. Between its memorable one-liners and iconic aesthetic, The Lost Boys is the perfect 80’s horror comedy to start off with during a marathon.

Friday the 13th (1980)

Set at Camp Crystal Lake, where a group of unsuspecting teenagers are stalked by a masked killer, Friday the 13th is one of the building block films of classic horror. As the death count rises, tension mounts in this chilling tale of survival. With its blend of suspense and gory thrills, the movie establishes key tropes of the horror genre and is one of the cornerstones in slasher cinema.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

A landmark horror film, A Nightmare on Elm Street features Freddy Krueger, a vengeful spirit who kills teenagers in their dreams. As the line between reality and nightmares blurs, the teens fight to survive the knife-fingered killer. With its innovative premise and iconic costuming and punchlines, the film redefined horror and left a lasting impact on the genre. An 80s horror movie marathon would be incomplete without this thrill of a film!

Halloween (1978)

One of the most notorious horror films to come out of this era, Halloween is the perfect horror movie to enjoy on a chilly October night. Following escaped asylum patient Michael Myers, the film follows his stalking of babysitter Laurie Strode on Halloween night. This much-watch film established the “final girl” trope and is a staple in the horror genre as a whole.

Poltergeist (1982)

Closing this movie marathon, Poltergeist follows the Freeling family, whose home is haunted by malevolent spirits. After the family's young daughter is taken, they seek help from afterlife experts in what is a chilling score of effects and plot progression. By far the scariest on the list, save Poltergeist to close out your 80s horror movie marathon.
